Steel Grade vs. Cold Rolled
There are various approaches to prefabrication on the market. From the point of view of durability and rigidity, the safest choice is structures made from steel I-beams (e.g. IPE). Unlike lighter alternatives made from cold-formed sheet metal, steel from steelworks offers the highest stability. This is crucial if the client plans, for example, to:
- Installation of heavy-duty cranes,
- installation of an extensive photovoltaic system on the roof,
- construction of storage mezzanines.
Corrosion protection: 10-year standard
Protecting the surface is equally important. The most effective method of corrosion protection, especially in the Polish climate, is hot-dip galvanising. This process creates an iron-zinc alloy that is almost mechanically indestructible. It is worth ensuring that the contractor offers a minimum of a 10-year warranty on the coating. Thanks to this, the hall will not require expensive maintenance and painting for decades, which generates huge savings over the building's life cycle.
Insulation and housing: how to avoid overpaying for energy?
The choice of cladding should be strictly dictated by the function of the building. Investors typically face the choice of one of two paths:
- Uninsulated warehouses Covered with high-quality trapezoidal sheet metal with an anti-condensation coating (preventing water vapour condensation). This solution is ideal for agricultural produce stores, equipment sheds, or garages for transport fleets.
- Insulated halls (warm) Using sandwich panels (e.g. with a PIR core). The insulation thickness is key here. A suitably selected „sandwich” will minimise heating costs in winter and prevent excessive overheating of the interior in summer.
